THE BEGINNING — MOAI
Moai is not the subject of Aeromorphism. Moai is its beginning.
One of the most important impulses leading to Aeromorphism was the monumental Moai figures of Rapa Nui.
Not their literal appearance. Not an attempt to copy. Not a reconstruction.
The inspiration was deeper: their ability to exist in the landscape as an almost absolute form of presence.
Moai can dominate space without movement, narrative or ornament. What remains is human, monument, earth and sky.
We do not copy Moai. We learn monumentality from them.
What happens to a monument if we preserve its presence but remove its mass?
Canonical Definition
Aeromorphism is an original sculptural style created by Daniel Nowicki, based on constructing form through the relationship between matter, void, air, light and space.
In Aeromorphism, the open structure is neither decoration nor a perforation applied to a pre-existing solid mass. Line, structure and void create the sculpture from its very beginning. Aeromorphism is developing as a contemporary sculptural language and artistic movement created by Daniel Nowicki.
FROM MONOLITH TO VOID
The classical monument bases its presence on mass. Aeromorphism reverses that relationship: the monolith opens, the solid becomes structure, mass becomes line, and weight is replaced by space.
The monolith becomes a skeleton. Mass becomes line. Stone becomes air.
